hello friends..
I need to find a good travel agent in bangkok, can anyone recommend one? Im flying into bangkok from australia in late september and wanting to book a flight to san fran( return ) .. last minute styles.. if anyone knows of a reliable spot where I could set that up please pass it on thanks. Also a good clean and relatively cheap local guesthouse would be great news as I plan to stop over only for a few days. Thank you x

Re: bangkok to san fran
Fri, August 8, 2008 - 12:29 PMhi elaine --i don't know any travel agencies in bkk offhand, but i wanted to suggest that you do some online research first, so you know what the regular prices are and you'll know if you're getting a good deal. check air china and EVA air, which are usually the cheapest, as well as Japan air and united (usually the most expensive). i fly EVA nowadays sfo-bkk (buy it online and book well in advance), and interestingly, the fares don't seem to have gone up with the fuel costs.
do you know where you want to stay in bangkok? it's a big place ;^) -- if you want to stay near khao san, i think there are some threads here with good recommendations. the new siam guesthouse now has a riverview one open right on the river in banglamphu that looks like a good place to spend a few days, and i think i might try it next time. it's not cheap, but spending a few days in a cheap guesthouse can be totally hellish if you're traveling solo and not out sightseeing all the time. i usually stay at the hotel democ because i like a little extra service and aircon and room service when i'm in bkk. rates for hotels and guesthouses are MUCH MUCH cheaper if you book ahead and prepay. i use agoda.com but asiarooms.com has good rates too.
and (just so you know) real san franciscans never call it san fran or frisco -- when we shorten it, we just call it "the city" -- sorta obnoxious like that, i guess ;^)
