Thai Visas / 6 Month Stay ???

I have seen so much conflicting information about what is going on with visas in Thailand.

From what I have been able to gather, I need a 60 day tourist visa from the US, then an "in country" renewal of the visa, then three exits out of country to stay there 180 days.

As I understand it, the 90 days start the first time you enter Thailand on a Free Enrty 30 day permit.

Does this sound right?

  • you can purchase two 60-day tourist visas at a time. when you come into the country, your first visa is activated (you don't need a free 30-day entry visa, you already bought a longer one), and after 60 days, you can extend it from within the country.... and then leave which completes that visa, and come back in and activate the second one... and repeat with less hassle than having to do 30-day runs.

here's the visa part of the thai consulate site in la about visas: www.thai-la.net/visa/visa-tourist.htm

you might also want to check out www.thaivisa.com which is where you'll find the options explained by lots of folks who have mastered the visa game and who are up to date on any changes happening.
